FYI

Today is Three Kings’ Day. In Mexico, children traditionally receive the majority of their gifts during this celebration, rather than at Christmas.

The day commemorates the three wise men who followed the star to Bethlehem, according to inside-mexico.com.

Rosca de reyes, or sweet bread, is baked to be eaten on Three Kings’ Day. A small doll that represents Jesus is baked into the dough.

Whoever finds the figure in their slice of sweet bread on Three Kings’ Day is obliged to give a party Feb. 2, Candlemas Day, or Dia de la Candelaria, offering tamales and atole, a hot, sweet drink thickened with corn flour, to guests.

The blue winter schedule, No. 203, is available at all ferry terminals, at libraries and at www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries.
