Quilts to comfort wounded soldiers
An American Hero Quilt Sew Day is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Stanwood Fire Hall, 27101 Pioneer Highway, Stanwood.
Quilters are invited to help make quilts for wounded soldiers. Sharon Szekely is organizing the event. For more information, go to www.americanhero quilts.com.
The blankets will be delivered to veteran’s hospitals in the Puget Sound area.
Youths to gather for meth summit
The sixth annual Youth Meth Summit is planned for 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Everett Events Center.
Hundreds of students are expected to attend and learn the dangers of methamphetamine and other illegal drugs.
There will be speakers, food, music and prizes.
Class for parents of troubled teens
Parents of Everett School District middle and high school students are invited to learn How to Handle the Problematic Teen.
The free parent workshop, sponsored by PTA groups at Cascade and Henry M. Jackson high schools, is scheduled for 6:30 tonight in the Cascade High School library, 801 E. Casino Road, Everett.
Valentine’s Day talk about love
Machias author and personal coach Sandy Powers plans to talk about the power of love at noon Wednesday at Everett Community College’s Bookstore, 2000 Tower St., Everett.
Powers will discuss the importance of loving and caring for yourself and deepening personal relationships with others. She is the author of “I Believe in You,” a collection of essays.
Scholar to speak about class power
Political scientist, historian and socialist scholar Michael Parenti plans to give a public presentation, “Culture and Class Power” at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cascadia Community College, room UW2-005 on the campus at 18345 Campus Way NE in Bothell.
Parenti wrote “The Culture Struggle” about the role culture plays in social power and political struggle.
