More than 400 Snohomish County high school and middle school students are expected to attend Everett Community College’s fourth annual Students of Color Career Conference, “Dare to Dream,” from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday.
The theme comes from Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of equality and social justice expressed in his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
The goal of the conference is to inspire students to expand their education and career goals, said EvCC accounting instructor and conference founder Bill Reed.
The event includes career panels, a career and education fair, information about college admission and financial aid, and the opportunity to meet with regional business leaders. At least six $500 scholarships will be announced at the conference.
Tell us about your Seahawk party
For those who don’t have a ticket to the Seattle Seahawks game on Saturday, that’s no reason to hang your head. Who needs to fight traffic to Qwest Field and pay $25 to park?
If you’re not going to the game, what are your plans for watching the playoff match? Are you buying a big-screen TV for the occasion and inviting 50 of your closest friends? Are you holding a Seahawk costume party where everyone dresses as Shaun Alexander? Let us know by calling Herald reporter Scott Pesznecker at 425-339-3436.
