Who has been wed the longest?

Historical Downtown Snohomish would like to find the couple in town who have been married the longest.

Historic Downtown Snohomish is affiliated with the National Trust’s Main Street Program, a network of 1,600 communities around the country trying to revitalize historic downtowns.

Snohomish leaders wanted to celebrate Valentine’s Day by finding the longest-married couple in Snohomish. The winners will receive a package of gifts.

New ferry schedule begins Sunday

Washington State Ferries begins its winter sailing schedule on Sunday. It continues through April 1.

The winter season is traditionally slow for the ferry system. Seasonal cuts or changes in service are made to save money. This is the third year in a row for the seasonal cuts, which saves the system about $500,000.

Service between Anacortes and Sidney, B.C., is canceled. Service on the weekend Fauntleroy- Vashon-Southworth route is decreased from three to two vessels.

The normal four boats will run in the San Juan Islands on weekdays, with three boats on weekends during the winter schedule.

The last ferry out of Anacortes seven days a week will be at 8:25 p.m. Arrive early for that sailing, especially on Friday nights.

Scholarship offered for geography buffs

Through Jan 17, high school students may take the AAA High School Travel Challenge and compete for a $1,000 U.S. savings bond and a trip to the national finals in Orlando, Fla., where they could receive a $25,000 scholarship.
