Santa Claus will join Snohomish County Fire District 1 volunteer firefighters to ride on a fire engine and hand out candy canes to neighbors of the Lake Serene and Silver Firs fire stations from 6 to 9 tonight.

The Santa tour has been a holiday tradition in the Lake Serene neighborhood for years. In addition to the neighborhoods around the fire station and the lake, firefighters plan to visit Picnic Point, Woodsound and Beverly.

This will be the first year firefighters will tour the Silver Firs area with Santa. The entourage doesn’t follow a set route or schedule.

Senior center will be closed Saturday

The Everett Senior Activity Center, 3025 Lombard Ave., will be closed on Saturday. The center usually closes after lunch on Christmas Eve. However, the center doesn’t serve lunch on Saturdays, and no regular activities are scheduled for the day.

The center will also be closed on Monday. It will reopen at its regular time at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Red Cross has a new number

The American Red Cross has a new phone number, 800-RED-CROSS, for those who wish to make a donation by phone.

The number could be made available later to use for emergencies.

Prepare for those holiday closures

Sunday is Christmas Day, and for many, Monday is a holiday. Here are some resulting closures:

Government: Federal, state and local offices will be closed.

Schools: Closed.

Post offices: Closed.

Commerce: Most businesses and banks will be closed.

Transportation: Community Transit and Everett Transit will be on Sunday schedules both Sunday and Monday. Dial 511 for ferry schedules or go to wsdot.wa.gov/ferries.

The Herald: Classified and reception will be closed. For delivery, call 425-339-3200 7:30 a.m.-noon Sunday and 5:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday.
