Everett’s little barnyard at Forest Park will close for the season at 4 p.m. Sunday.
So hurry if you want to visit an 8-week-old filly named Cassidy, chickens, goats and pigs.
The Animal Farm at Forest Park is free. It’s at 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd.
School supplies needed at YWCA
The YWCA is gathering school supplies for 100 homeless and low- income children in Snohomish County.
But the Y has a long way to go and needs the donations by Wednesday.
The Y says children feel embarrassed and insecure about attending school without pencils, paper, crayons and notebooks – let alone a backpack or new shoes.
If you would like to contribute to YWCA School Days, go to http://ywcaworks.org or call 425-774-9843, ext. 224.
Learn to be safe while riding bikes
The Boy Scouts will host a Bike Rodeo and Safety Clinic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at G.I. Joes at Frontier Village, 519 Highway 9 in Lake Stevens.
Ages 5 to 11 are welcome. Bring your bike and helmet, and get safety tips and checks.
Also bring an adult to sign a permission slip to ride on the skills course.
Scholarships offered to veterans
Americans who served in the wars in Afghanistan or Iraq will have the opportunity this fall to win college money through a new scholarship fund expected to reach $10 million.
The Horatio Alger Military Scholarship is billed as the first national scholarship specifically for Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans.
Former U.S. Ambassador to Spain George Argyros and his wife, Julia, created the fund by donating $5 million, which the Horatio Alger Association for Distinguished Americans aims to match through fundraising.
Scholarship applications are due by Sept. 1. For more information, go to http:// horatioalger.org.
