SHS jams to end hunger
Snohomish High School librarian Volkert Volkersz will host a benefit concert for Snohomish Food Bank at 7 p.m. Jan. 15.
The “Beatles Night” will be held at Wired and Unplugged Coffeehouse, 717 First Street. Many students from the high school music department will perform, as well as SHS alumni and other local musicians.
Admission is by donation; a can of food and $5 is the suggested minimum. For more information, go to www.wired andunplugged.com.
Arts center foundation donates $1M for facility
The Northshore Performing Arts Center Foundation recently presented a $1 million check to the Northshore School District to help pay for construction of a new performing arts venue.
The 600-seat Northshore Performing Arts Center opened earlier this year at Bothell High School. It was part of a 2002 bond measure.
In 1994, the City of Bothell, the school district and the arts center foundation formed a partnership to build the facility.
In all, the foundation contributed $3.5 million, including $1 million for an endowment.
LSHS seeks CE volunteers
Lake Stevens High School seeks people from the community to participate on panels that will hear students present required “culminating exhibitions.”
The individualized projects are a graduation requirement and include a community service aspect, an essay and a plan for beyond high school.
About 250 students will present their finished projects in a variety of ways, including computer presentations and posters.
Panels will be held from 11 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Jan. 20.

Edmonds fair shares info about district programs
The Edmonds School District hosts its annual District Information Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 7 at Lynnwood High School, 3001 184th St. SW.
Kindergarten registration opens Jan. 9, and the information session will help families learn about the process and meet school staff.
It fair also will include:
* Details on the district’s 2006 levy and bond requests;
* School bus rides and a performance by the Transportation Safety Players;
* Reviews of the district’s HIV/AIDS curriculum and math and graduation requirements;
* Information about career and technical education programs;
* An overview of how the district has used tax dollars raised by a 2004 technology levy;
* Meet and greets with school board members;
* Details on open job positions.
