Snohomish Fire Explorer Post 444 is collecting used cell phones and used inkjet cartridges for a recycling program. The program will help fund the post’s trip to its national conference in Illinois in June.
Phones and cartridges are being collected at the Everett Fire Station at 2811 Oakes Ave.; at Snohomish Fire District 4 headquarters, 1525 Ave. D, Snohomish; and Fire District 1 headquarters, 12310 Meridian Ave., Everett.

Order trees, shrubs during annual sale
The Snohomish Conservation District is taking orders for trees and shrubs. The plants will be available at the district’s annual sale March 2 and 3 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe.
The district annually sells more than 90,000 conservation plants to homeowners, tree farmers, park districts, garden clubs and homeowner associations.
The plants can be used for wildlife habitat, erosion control, visual screens and to restore native vegetation. Typical offerings include firs, pines, cedars, hemlock, roses, groundcovers and ferns.

United Way offers tax preparation aid
United Way will host an open house from 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 12 for its free tax preparation site at the Boys &Girls Club, 2316 12th St., north Everett. The public is invited to learn more about free tax preparation aid and meet the site manager, sponsors and volunteers.
The tax preparation site opens Jan. 20. Certified volunteers will prepare and electronically file taxes through April 14. Hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
The program is aimed at helping low- and moderate-income families by claiming tax credits and refunds, but taxes will be prepared for people of all income levels. The service is for simple individual tax returns only (no business or rental income returns.) No appointment is necessary.
Emergency training class in Marysville
Community Emergency Response Team training by the Marysville Fire District is set for 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, Jan 16 through Feb. 13, at the Shoultes Fire Station, 10701 Shoultes Road, Marysville. The class is offered free of charge.

Help salvage native plants near Sultan
The Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force needs volunteers to help salvage native plants from a site near Lake Chaplain north of Sultan.
The salvage is set for 10 a.m. Jan. 13. The plants will later be transplanted along one of the task force’s salmon habitat restoration sites.

Hospice in need of volunteer notaries
Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County is looking for licensed notaries who are willing to visit homebound patients in Arlington, Lake Stevens, Granite Falls, Stanwood and Marysville.
