Gov. Chris Gregoire won’t be the nation’s next solicitor general.
Today, she phoned White House officials and told them she does not want to be considered for the nomination to succeed Elena Kagan in the job. Kagan was sworn in Saturday as the newest member of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Gregoire told them she’s been “humbled” to know she’s among those reportedly under consideration but concluded “it is not the right time for her” to leave the state, said her spokeswoman, Karina Shagren.
There’s been endless talk of the possibility of an early Gregoire departure for the Obama Administration.
Last Friday, she told Andrew Garber of the Seattle Times she’d spend the weekend pondering whether to see what happens or nip it in the bud to focus on state affairs.
