SNOHOMISH COUNTY — Heavy rain in recent days has led to an increased potential for landslides.
The National Weather Service in Seattle issued an advisory Friday morning, reporting that up to 2 inches of rain has fallen in parts of Western Washington. The heavy rains add to already saturated soil from storms over the past several weeks.
“The recent rainfall has put extra pressure on soil instability,” according to the advisory.
A mudslide shut down Olympic View Drive in Edmonds Thursday. No injuries were reported. The road is open to local traffic only between Talbot Road and 190th Place SW. The roadway is expected to be closed for a couple of days.
A winter weather advisory is expected to remain in effect until mid-Saturday in the Cascades with heavy snow expected to hit the passes overnight. Up to 8 inches of snow was being forecast for Stevens Pass. That could mean traffic woes for people traveling back home after Thanksgiving.
