EVERETT — A storm warning was issued Sunday afternoon for parts of Snohomish County .
A strong weather system coming through the region was expected to bring heavy snow in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Up to a foot of snow was predicted today in the northern Cascades and mountain passes.
Officials said the storm warning was expected to be in effect through 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Forecasters expect cool, showery weather for the rest of the week.
The Transportation Department advises traction tires on Snoqualmie and Stevens passes.
The Weather Service expects heavy rain on the Olympics to cause minor flooding along the Skokomish River.
Forecasters say the storm could generate thunderstorms this afternoon in Eastern Washington.
Puget Sound Energy reported 4,500 scattered outages, mostly in Pierce and Thurston counties. Seattle City Light reported 4,000 outages in the Magnolia neighborhood.
