Hiker missing overnight on Mount Baring is found safe

INDEX — A missing hiker on Mount Baring east of Index was found safe Thursday morning, officials said.

The Des Moines man, 65, did not return from a day hike by Wednesday evening and relatives called for help, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

Two volunteers from Snohomish County Search and Rescue found the man around 7 a.m. He is described as an experienced hiker.

“He doesn’t appear to be injured,” Hover said.

Hover said she didn’t know what caused the man to be overdue.
