CORVALLIS, Ore. — A horse at Oregon State University’s veterinary hospital has been diagnosed with equine influenza.
The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports the infected horse has been moved to an isolation facility and other horses are being monitored.
Until the risk of infection is over, the hospital is only accepting horses that need emergency help. The hospital doesn’t expect to treat horses for non-emergencies until Monday at the earliest.
Equine influenza is a highly contagious respiratory disease that is generally not fatal. It can’t be transferred to other animals.
