Navy firefighters honored for saving lives
NAVAL STATION EVERETT — Firefighters assigned to Naval Station Everett were honored this week with the Commander Navy Installations Command Certificate of Life Saving for an emergency response Feb. 20 that rescued two civilians from carbon monoxide poisoning aboard a beached boat.
The honored firefighters, who serve under Navy Region Northwest Fire and Emergency Services, are Eric Keizer, Michael Wetzel, Robert Berry, Christopher Beutler, Andrew Boyle and Benjamin Frankenberry.
A Navy security boat out on patrol discovered the vessel, which had run aground on the Snohomish River shoreline adjacent to the base. The two patients, who were unconscious, were transported to a hospital for further treatment. Two dogs also were removed from the vessel and treated with oxygen.
Navy firefighters provide emergency response assistance under an agreement with the Everett Fire Department and also participate with the city during annual emergency exercises.
