Flags for our Fallen: Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7511 hosts its second annual Flags for our Fallen 5k walk and run event at 9:30 a.m. May 26 at Lake Tye Park in Monroe. The family-friendly event, held on Memorial Day weekend, raises money to support the Post as it seeks to add new members, help veterans, and extend its local community outreach. Vendors ($50) and business sponsors ($500) are welcome; veteran-owned businesses and organizations can participate at no cost. Deadline for sponsors is May 4. Camano vet raising money: After graduating from Stanwood High School in 2002, Kyle Stilling served six years with the Marines, including two combat deployments in Iraq. He is raising money for the Semper Fi Fund as part of his training for the Marine Corps Marathon, to be held Oct. 28 in Virginia. Stilling, of Camano Island, now lives in Duluth, Minn., where he’s pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. More info: runsignup.com/stilling.
Northwest Veterans Museum: The Northwest Veterans Museum is located in the Wicker Building at Heritage Park, 19921 Poplar Way, Lynnwood. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and by appointment at other times. The museum displays exhibits of patriotic, military and war-related artifacts and memorabilia. Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society: The nonprofit provides interest-free loans and grants for emergency and unexpected financial needs for active duty, retired military and their family members. Hero’s Café: Hero’s Café, a social gathering for veterans, meets 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. the last Tuesday of each month at Verdant Health and Wellness Community Center, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. Veterans can share a cup of coffee and their stories. The program is a partnership between local veterans groups and the city of Lynnwood.
