MARYSVILLE — The Feb. 19 fire at the Village Restaurant remains under investigation, officials said Tuesday.
The damage estimate has grown to $2.1 million, said Christie Veley, spokeswoman for the Marysville Fire District. The district is working to determine the cause along with the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office and the insurance company.
“The investigation is focusing on the kitchen area,” she said.
The restaurant dates to 1937, when it was a pie shack on old Highway 99, now State Avenue. It later moved to Ash Avenue.
The business owners have said they hope to reopen the restaurant in downtown Everett at the site of the former Majestic Cafe. Last week, they told a customer on Facebook that it wasn’t clear when that will happen.
No one was injured in the fire, which started after employees had gone home for the night. The rebuilding effort in Marysville is likely to take a year, the owners have said.
