SEATTLE — A Kent couple accused of a 20-year welfare fraud scheme were sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Seattle to two years in prison.
Ronnie George and Nancy Stone had pleaded guilty in October to Social Security fraud, beginning in 1990.
The U.S. attorney’s office says George posed as mentally disabled and said he couldn’t work or drive or take care of his daily needs. In fact, he ran a business buying and selling RVs and other vehicles.
His wife claimed to be his caregiver and was paid by the state Department of Social and Health Services.
The couple have been ordered to pay more than $315,000 in restitution.
