Suspect sought in stabbing of teenage boy

EVERETT — Police Monday afternoon were looking for a teenage boy who allegedly stabbed another boy during a fight near Silver Lake, officials said.

The boy who was stabbed was taken to a hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, Everett police Sgt. Jerry Streick said.

The fight apparently started just before 3 p.m. between the two boys, both 16, at Thornton A. Sullivan Park at Silver Lake, Streick said.

The two boys know each other but police don’t yet know what sparked the fight. Police were combing the area late Monday for the boy who drove away from the area, Streick said.

Detectives were still trying to determine exactly what happened, he said.

Man, 75, revives after rescue from hot tub

A 75-year-old Everett man was pulled from a hot tub at a fitness club Monday afternoon and revived, officials said.

A couple of people rescued the man submerged in the water around 3 p.m. at the 24-Hour Fitness in the 10100 block of Evergreen Way, Everett police Sgt. Jerry Streick said.

Club employees called 911 and began CPR, the company said in a statement. The man apparently was breathing and had a heartbeat when he was transported from the club.

The man is expected to survive, Streick said.

Abandoned Grand Avenue house burns

A vacant house in the 2300 block of Grand Avenue in Everett caught fire Monday evening, said Everett Fire Department Battalion Chief Roger Westlund.

“It was an abandoned house, but transients appear to have used it recently,” Westlund said.

Fire crews were called to the scene at about 6:45 p.m., and the fire was under control before 7 p.m., Westlund said. The blaze began on the porch of the house, and it’s unclear what caused it.

The house is 11/2 stories, with a daylight basement, he said. The fire caused about $20,000 in damage to the structure.

The incident is under investigation by fire officials, Westlund said.

Stevens Pass: Ski area reopens today

The Stevens Pass ski resort was set to reopen today after being shut down since Thursday due to bad weather, the resort’s Web site said.

Still, the backside of the resort was expected to be closed due to ongoing avalanche concerns, the Web site said.

On Monday, a landslide blocked U.S. 2 in both directions near Stevens Pass for several hours, state Department of Transportation officials said.

Monday’s landslide occurred where a massive avalanche came down on Saturday, said Jeff Adamson, a transportation department spokesman.

The busy highway over the Cascades has been closed intermittently for the past two weeks due to heavy snow and avalanche dangers.

The road was closed for 56 hours beginning Friday as one avalanche after another blocked the road, Adamson said.

Rain is forecast in the mountain passes today turning to snow tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle. More snow is forecast for later this week.

Marysville: Woman hit by car

A woman was taken to an Everett hospital Monday after being hit by a car, officials said.

The woman who was hit is expected to survive, Marysville Fire Battalion Chief Martin McFalls said.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the 17100 block of Smokey Point Boulevard, he said.

Initial reports indicated the woman was unconscious. By the time rescue crews arrived, she was alert and oriented, McFalls said.

Officials were still investigating Monday night.
