MUKILTEO — Three people in a small boat were rescued from rough waters Friday night by a Washington State Ferries emergency launch, Coast Guard officials said.
The boaters called for help just after 8 p.m. when they feared their 14-foot aluminum boat would be swamped, Coast Guard Petty Officer Denys Rivas said. They were about 500 yards off the Mukilteo ferry landing.
All three people aboard were wearing life jackets, but they didn’t have lights or emergency flares, he said.
The Coast Guard called the Washington State Ferries operation center to ask if the Kittitas could help with a rescue, Rivas said.
The Kittitas responded within five minutes and launched its own rescue boat to help, he said.
The boat in distress was towed to the Mukilteo landing, Rivas said. No one was hurt.
The ferries are called whenever the Coast Guard has an emergency situation near the state-operated runs, he said.
“We use them for eyes on scene,” Rivas said. ‘They’re more than happy to give us a hand with these. They’re actually a phenomenal resource because they’re always underway.”
Everett: Therapy leads to rape charge
A man who operates a natural medicine clinic was charged Monday with indecent liberties and third-degree rape for alleged improper contact with a client during a massage on March 21.
Anastasio Perez Seras, 61, operates a natural medicine clinic from his south Everett apartment. He will be summoned to Snohomish County Superior Court to face charges.
He asked an 18-year-old girl to arrive for an appointment without her boyfriend, according to charging papers filed by deputy prosecutor Matt Hunter. He’s accused of improperly touching her during the massage.
The young woman previously had two treatments for problems she had with her hips, but her boyfriend accompanied her during the earlier visits, according to charging papers.
