Local briefly: Lynnwood Health District reopens after accident

LYNNWOOD — The Snohomish Health District’s Lynnwood office, which was forced to close on Friday when a car struck a nearby power box, knocking out electricity and phone lines, resumed normal operations Tuesday.

Repairs were completed over the weekend at the office, said Suzanne Pate, health district spokeswoman.

The office, which is 6101 200th St. SW, used a backup generator to keep vaccines fresh.

“No vaccines were lost,” Pate said.

Bothell: Motorcyclist in hospital after crash

A motorcyclist was talking to paramedics after a collision that sent him skidding and tumbling about 80 yards before landing in a culvert, officials said.

The man, 21, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the region’s trauma center, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

The motorcycle apparently was close to the centerline and clipped a DHL delivery van just before 3 p.m. in the 23500 block of 23rd Avenue W, Hover said. The motorcycle skidded and tumbled down the road.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 paramedics took the man to Harborview, spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.

No one else was injured.

Everett: Man hits a tow truck with van

A man was injured Saturday when he drove a van into a parked tow truck, police said.

The man was headed northbound in the 2100 block of Walnut Street just after 10 p.m. when he crashed, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.

Police and fire crews had to extricate the man from the van, Goetz said.

The man was treated at Providence Everett Medical Everett Center before being booked into the Snohomish County Jail for drunken driving warrants, Goetz said.

Police are investigating alcohol as a possible cause of Saturday’s collision, he said.

Man who was killed by machinery ID’d

EVERETT – The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office Tuesday identified a man who was killed when he was struck by a 22,000-pound piece of machinery along a section of I-5 that’s under construction.

The body of Ralph Edward Vantine, 61, of Snohomish, was found under a blanket.

The medical examiner said he was struck by a self-propelled work platform used to raise construction crews to work above the ground.

Vantine’s body was found under the freeway near 36th Street and a Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail track.

Crews working for the Washington Department of Transportation contractor Atkinson-CH2M Hill had been using the equipment in the area, DOT spokesman Mike Cotton said.

Crews have been working in the area of the accident for two years and were in the advanced stags of heavy bridge construction, Cotton said. The area where the body was found is fenced and posted with “No Trespassing” signs, Cotton said.

Stevens Pass: Road closed briefly

STEVENS PASS — An avalanche closed Stevens Pass for about an hour Monday, officials said.

Snow covered three lanes about a mile west of the summit, said Jeff Adamson, a state Department of Transportation spokesman. It took crews about an hour to get to the slide and clean it up, he said.

“It was just a small snowslide,” he said.

Showers are forecast for later this week and snow is likely in the mountains by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.

Woodinville: Suspect arrested in burglary

A man who was shot at during an apparent interrupted burglary was arrested over the weekend in Sultan.

The man was booked on Saturday into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of assault and burglary. A deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle near Mann Road and arrested him, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

A man told police on Friday he went to check on his property on Highway 203 and found the door to an outbuilding kicked in. The suspect came out of the building, jumped into a pickup truck and tried to run down the property owner, Hover said.

The property owner fired shots at the tires of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect drove off. No injuries were reported.
