BOTHELL — Construction of a new bridge on Locust Way is taking longer than expected and detours are expected to continue for another month.
The Swamp Creek Bridge 504 replacement project began in June. Work was expected to wrap up in mid-October. The bridge is now scheduled to reopen in mid- to late November.
“The construction delay stems from production constraints of the steel pipe piling that is part of the foundation of the bridge,” according to a statement from Snohomish County Public Works. “Crews from McClure and Sons, Inc. have been working Saturdays to make up for the lost time, but unfortunately not enough time has been recovered.”
Lockwood Elementary School is near the project site. A police officer will direct traffic at the intersection of Carter Road and Lockwood Road weekday mornings and afternoons to help traffic flow.
Locust Way will remain closed between 231st Street SW and Barker Road to all vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians until the bridge is done.
The new bridge will be longer, wider and several feet higher. Bike lanes and sidewalks will be added. The existing bridge has two lanes and was built in 1936. It was rebuilt in 1958 and 1988. It’s located in an unincorporated area between Brier and Bothell.
