LYNNWOOD — A Lynnwood day care worker was arrested Thursday for investigation of sexually abusing a 7-year-old child.
The suspect, now 21, was hired through an online babysitting service, Care.com, to care for a family’s children several days each week in 2019, for about four months, at a home near Bothell, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
He underwent a background check and had “extensive references,” says a probable cause statement filed Friday in Everett District Court.
He resumed caring for the kids in 2021.
A sibling told a parent about “inappropriate interactions” between the babysitter and the young child, according to the sheriff’s office. This was first reported to Child Protective Services on Jan. 21.
Deputies learned the man was employed at a day care in Lynnwood. He was fired due to the investigation, the sheriff’s office reported.
The suspect was arrested at his home Thursday for investigation of first-degree child rape and first-degree child molestation.
The investigation continued this week. Tips can be directed to the sheriff’s office at 425-388-3845.
