Lynnwood: Suspect found with gun
Police reported finding a loaded .22-caliber semiautomatic pistol, 18-inch zip ties, a roll of duct tape, two-way radios and a large knife in the backpack of a convicted kidnapper.
Prosecutors on Thursday charged Tanar McKenzie, 30, with unlawful gun possession. The Auburn man was convicted in 1999 in King County with first-degree kidnapping. He isn’t allowed to have any firearms, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Janice Albert wrote.
A man called police Monday to report that he’d been assaulted at a Lynnwood bus stop. He said he and others were waiting for the bus when another rider cut in line. The witness told the man to go to the back of the line. The suspect called him an obscene name and then shoved and punched the man.
Police found McKenzie a few blocks away. Not only was he identified as the assault suspect, officers recognized him as someone who had been at the scene of a suspicious shooting a few weeks earlier. McKenzie was arrested on a warrant, Albert wrote.
Officer searched McKenzie and found marijuana in his pocket. They also found a loaded gun, knife, duct tape and two-way radios in his backpack, Albert wrote.
He was being held on $250,000 bail.
