A convicted rapist recently released from prison could be headed back for life if convicted of sexually assaulting a teen-age relative who had been baby-sitting at his home.
Anthony Darnell Snow, 32, was charged Thursday in Snohomish County Superior Court with one count of second-degree rape. Snow on Monday raped and choked a 14-year-old girl who is part of his extended family while she was at his home in the Silver Firs neighborhood south of Everett, deputy prosecutor David Kurtz alleged.
Snow has prior convictions for rape, robbery and auto theft and was last released from prison in March. "If convicted as charged in this case, it appears that he would receive a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole," Kurtz wrote.
Snow could be found a "persistent offender" under either the "three strikes" law, or the "two strikes" law, which mandates life in prison for repeat violent sex offenders, according to court papers.
The girl told police that Snow forced himself on her early Monday, choking her and threatening to kill her if she refused sex, Kurtz alleged.
The girl told police that Snow was intentionally rough during the rape because he knew she was a virgin, the prosecutor alleged.
After some time, the girl was taken home and told her mother what happened.
When questioned by police, Snow eventually admitted he’d had sexual contact with the girl, and may have grabbed her throat hard enough to leave marks, according to court papers. He denied making death threats.
Snow’s wife also was arrested in connection with the case and ordered jailed for investigation of unlawful imprisonment and witness intimidation. She was released from jail Thursday.
"We have chosen not to file anything, at least at this time," Kurtz said of the woman, although the investigation is continuing.
When released from prison, Snow was classified a Level 3 registered sex offender. The category is reserved for rapists and child molesters who authorities believe are most likely to reoffend.
Snow’s new neighbors were warned of his release and a public meeting was held to field their concerns.
