LAKE STEVENS – Play in a swimming pool this morning appears to have led to a near drowning at a camp near Lake Stevens.
Medics rushed to the Cedar Spring Camp on Highway 92 around 7:30 a.m. to treat a man in his 50s who was pulled unresponsive from a pool, Lake Stevens Fire District Deputy Chief Dave Lingenfelter said.
Witnesses told the firefighters a child had jumped on the man while he was in the pool, Lingenfelter said.
The man was rushed to a local hospital and medics were able to detect a pulse, he said.
The near drowning comes while officials worry that many people will look to the water to cool off during this week’s heat wave.
Temperatures are forecast to rise to nearly 100 degrees today and could break the century mark Wednesday, officials said.
If people do choose to find relief in the region’s lakes, rivers or pools, use extreme caution, officials warn.
A Seattle woman, 48, died Monday after being swept up by the current in the Skykomish River near Monroe.
