EVERETT — A man died early Tuesday after he apparently was shot multiple times in a south Everett parking lot, police said.
By Tuesday afternoon, police were looking for a white Ford Explorer that a witness saw driving from the scene.
The man who was shot, described as being in his mid- to late 40s, was dead when police arrived, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
Everett police and Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies were called just before 5 a.m. to the 8700 block of Holly Drive, Goetz said.
An anonymous caller told police there was a possible shooting victim near a state Department of Corrections office off Evergreen Way just south of Highway 526, Goetz said.
Officers located the man lying between a pickup truck and a car in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Everett Fire paramedics confirmed the man had died, Goetz said.
Officers interviewed several residents of two apartment buildings that share the parking lot. Many people told police they heard gunshots but didn’t see anything, he said.
Someone reported a white sports utility vehicle driving from the scene at about the same time of the shooting, Goetz said. No license plate or other information about the truck was available.
Patrol officers searched the area and no suspects were found, he said.
Police on Tuesday interviewed a woman found at the scene and considered a witness. They were trying to determine if she had a relationship with the man or knew anything about the shooting, Goetz said.
It was not immediately known if the man lived at the apartment complex or what he was doing in the area.
Early Tuesday, major crimes detectives were scouring the area for evidence. An Everett Fire Department ladder truck was brought in to allow investigators to take aerial pictures.
The building owner, Dong Nguyen, called to the scene by one of the tenants, said there haven’t been problems at the building since he bought it about six years ago.
The investigation continues, Goetz said.
