EDMONDS — Festival season gets into full gear this weekend with the opening of the 22nd annual Edmonds Rotary Waterfront Festival at the Port of Edmonds Marina.
The nautically themed event, running from today to Sunday, is overflowing with attractions, including two entertainment stages, boat displays and tours, a 5K run, a preview of the 25th annual Marine Art Exhibition, and an abundance of activities for children.
The Pacific Northwest Fleet of the Classic Yacht Association and the Port of Edmonds are sponsors of a display of more than 20 classic yachts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Many of the watercraft will be available for boarding and close-up viewing — bring your soft-soled shoes.
The third annual Eastside Offshore Marine Services Invitational will have a number of these fast offshore boats in the water and on display. Several hydroplanes will also be on exhibit.
A rock climbing wall, inflatable rides, rubber duck races, a giant slide, pony rides, face painting and the “Kids Make Art Project” will keep children busy. On the Family Stage, audiences can view traditional Hawaiian dancing, a reptile show and an Elvis impersonator, among other performances.
The popular trout fishing event sponsored by The Edmonds Laebugten Salmon Chapter of Trout Unlimited takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in conjunction with its annual open house at the Willow Creek Fish Hatchery. Children 12 and under can fish for trout for free; Laebugten Chapter members will clean the fish. The fish hatchery will be open for tours.
