EVERETT – Students and staff at Mariner High School were sent home this morning after the FBI received what police called a “credible” bomb threat to the school.
The threat was e-mailed to the FBI tip line in Washington, D.C., according to Snohomish County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen. She would not comment on the contents of the e-mail, only saying that the “tone of the threat caused enough concern” to evacuate the school.
The sheriff’s office and a bomb-sniffing dog from the Washington State Patrol searched the school and didn’t find anything, she said.
“As a precaution we decided to send students and staff home,” according to district spokesman Andy Muntz.
About 1,900 students and more than 100 staff members were sent home about 11:20 a.m.
The sheriff’s office and the FBI continue to investigate the threat.
