MUKILTEO — Several Mukilteo School District campuses are getting upgrades that students may or may not notice when they return to classes Sept. 2.
One work crew has been putting a new $2.4 million roof on Mariner High School, while another contractor is replacing the wooden bleachers with aluminum ones at the school’s Goddard Stadium.
Both projects are still in progress, but they should be completed before the school year begins, officials said.
“The roof is one of those things we couldn’t put off any more,” said Andy Muntz, a school district spokesman. “They say they will be done with the bleachers by the first football game.”
The district also is moving its Community Based Transition Center for special needs students who are 18 to 21 years old from Casino Road to the district support services center near the Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center off Airport Road. The old building, which once was known as Wilson Elementary School and later as the Wilson Building, will be torn down, Muntz said.
Endeavour Elementary School is adding two portables. The campus in Harbour Pointe has been a popular transfer destination for children who were attending neighborhood schools that failed to meet academic goals under the federal No Child Left Behind law.
“We’re just adding classrooms where we can, where we have the room,” Muntz said.
The school district also is evaluating a report aimed at improving traffic flow through Kamiak High School’s parking lots.
“Kamiak has always been a bit of a bottleneck and we’re looking for ways to make it better,” Muntz said.
