MARYSVILLE — The field in front of the schools at the Marysville Secondary Campus is empty. A tangle of grass and wildflowers greet visitors as they drive onto the campus.
Parents hope to change that.
They’re collecting money to build sports fields in front of the schools.
“It will provide for a nice entry into the school,” said Lana Magnan, who has children attending Marysville Arts and Technology High School. “Right now it’s hard to tell it’s a school because there’s a big empty field.”
The parents are hosting an auction at 5:30 p.m. on April 11 in the ballroom at the Tulalip Resort Casino, 10200 Quil Ceda Blvd.
A number of items are scheduled to be up for bid, including:
* Trip for two to Las Vegas on American Airlines with a three-night stay at the Venetian Hotel Casino with personal poker coaching by champion Mary Jones and a night helicopter ride over the strip.
* Vacation to Palm Springs, Calif., including airfare and a five-night stay at the Oasis Resort.
* A Tulalip Resort Casino bed and breakfast experience.
* Breakfast for two and a couples facial at T Spa.
* Two original cedar paddles carved by tribal artist James Madison and apprentice artist Andrew Gobin, a Marysville Arts and Technology High alumnus.
Tickets cost $55 per person, $100 per couple and $500 for a table of 10.
Tickets include a reception and silent auction with a four-course dinner created by Tulalip Resort Casino’s culinary team and wine offerings from Woodinville’s DeLille Cellars.
Building fields for football and soccer, and baseball and softball, along with picnic tables, benches and a jogging path, should cost more than $1 million, said Magnan, one of the auction organizers. The fields would be available for students at the three schools on the secondary campus: Heritage High School, 10th Street School, and Arts and Technology High School.
Magnan hopes the quality of the items at the auction will attract a big crowd and lots of donations.
“It’s going to be really glamorous,” she said.
