Marysville Mayor Dave Weiser is urging residents to strengthen their commitment to recycling as part of America Recycles Day today.
Weiser suggests that residents shop smarter by looking for products made from recycled goods.
Buying recycled products "conserves resources, reduces water and air pollution, saves energy and creates jobs," solid waste supervisor Terry Hawley said.
"Producing a ton of paper from recycled pulp saves 17 trees, three cubic yards of landfill space and 7,000 gallons of water," he said. "It also reduces air pollutants by 60 pounds, saves 390 gallons of oil, and conserves 4,200-kilowatt hours of energy — enough to heat a home for half a year."
America Recycles Day is an effort of business and industry, environmental and civic groups, and all levels of government to encourage recycling.
Marysville has adopted a Clean City Policy with mandatory recyclable collection service for residents.
Questions about Marysville’s recycling program can be addressed to Terry Hawley at 80 Columbia Ave., Marysville, WA 98270, or by calling 360-651-5100.
