The Marysville School District Navy Junior ROTC held its annual awards ceremony on May 11. The unit celebrated its Distinguished Unit with Honors Award and also recognized several individuals.
Commander Randy Brasfield was surprised with a Presidential Lifetime Volunteer Service Medial for his more than 4,000 hours of community service in the past 22 years.
Cadet Eleanor Wilde, a junior at Marysville Pilchuck High School, earned a Presidential Volunteer medal for 294 hours of community service in one year.
Cadet Angel Reyes, a sophomore at Marysville BioMed Academy, earned Senior Cadet of the Year.
Dawn Bechtholdt, principal of the Arts and Technology and Mountain View high schools, received the Navy Outstanding Educator Award.
There are 43 graduating cadets in the class of 2017, two of whom will continue with the Navy ROTC program in college. Six others have enlisted in military service.
