MARYSVILLE – Three years after a Marysville police officer found a man stabbed in an abandoned home, police have made the second arrest in less than a month in the case.
On Wednesday, a 21-year-old Marysville man was jailed for investigation of second-degree murder. He is expected to make a court appearance later today.
On April 13, 2005 police found Charles Hughley, 39, dead in an abandoned home in the 100 block of Beach Avenue.
Hughley had multiple stab wounds, according to court papers.
The man who was arrested Wednesday told police he and others attacked Hughley in retaliation for an assault when he was 18. The man claimed three others participated in the attack.
Investigators have interviewed numerous people since the slaying and collected hundreds of items of evidence, police have said.
On April 9, police arrested a 26-year-old transient who is accused of being present during the killing and allegedly helped dispose of evidence, said Marysville police Cmdr. Ralph Krusey.
The man arrested Wednesday at the time of the killing was interviewed numerous times by police. He denied involvement.
On Tuesday, police interviewed him again and told the man he’d failed a polygraph test. He agreed to talk to police again Wednesday.
He allegedly changed his story and told police he punched Hughley but didn’t stab him, court documents said.
