EVERETT — A manager in the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has agreed to drop a lawsuit against her employer after the sides reached a settlement last month.
Heather Oie sued in King County Superior Court a year ago, saying she was unfairly passed over for a job as deputy director. The suit accused Snohomish County government and then-Deputy Executive Mark Ericks of gender-based discrimination and retaliation against Oie for trying to report the alleged bias.
The county admitted no liability in the settlement, but agreed to pay $60,000 for Oie’s attorney fees. The county also credited her 10 sick days. She’ll continue in her job as an operations manager, a position she’s held since 2012.
The suit arose amid a failed restructuring effort at the Medical Examiner’s Office. A majority of the County Council rejected the plan in April 2015, eliminating the deputy director position and forcing out the former Bothell police sergeant Ericks hired to fill it.
