Missing plumber found staying at friend’s cabin

LYNNWOOD – A man who was reported missing on Valentine’s Day was found Wednesday at a friend’s summer cabin in Skagit County.

Brett Owen Johnson, 37, told police he spent five days driving around in his van in Eastern Washington before arriving at his friend’s cabin, Lynnwood Police Department spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said.

He told police he left because he needed time to think, Sessions said. He’s been admitted to a hospital for medical and mental health treatment, she added.

Johnson, a plumber, disappeared with his van Feb. 14 after finishing a plumbing job in Shoreline. He last talked to his wife about 3:30 p.m. that day before his cell phone was turned off.

The pursuit ended when the man ran his 1985 Ford LTD into a pole near Everett Mall Way. He suffered minor injuries. No one else was injured, Sessions said.

Marysville: Firefighters save house from attic fire

A joint team of firefighters from Arlington and Marysville saved a home by putting out a fast-spreading attic fire on Thursday.

Black smoke was billowing from the house in the 14400 block of Timberbrook Drive when firefighters arrived about 2 p.m. The blaze was under control after about 40 minutes, said Cal Droke, acting battalion chief at the Marysville Fire District.

The fire started behind the house and climbed up the back wall into the attic. The cause is under investigation.

The living room, dining room and kitchen sustained smoke and water damage, Droke said.

The Getchell Fire District assisted.
