PENDLETON, Ore. — A man returned to his home in Pendleton, Oregon, to find 150 gallons of home heating oil fouling his basement due to a mistaken delivery.
The East Oregonian reports Brent Merriman made the discovery Monday after returning from Portland, where he was dealing with his father’s death.
Maddee Moore of Pendleton Grain Growers says their oil delivery driver went to the wrong house.
Oregon Department of Environmental Quality spokesman Greg Svelund says Merriman’s house used to heat with oil, but the storage tank had been removed. So when the driver tried to fill the tank, oil ran over the floor, soaking carpeting, walls and personal belongings.
Svelund says after cleanup work is finished, air quality tests will be done to see if the house is safe to live in.
