SNOHOMISH — Firefighters found a 20-year-old Monroe man dead in a submerged car early Monday.
A passerby saw the car flipped over in a drainage ditch just before 7 a.m. in the 12300 block of Old Snohomish-Monroe Road and called 911, said Snohomish Fire District 4 Battalion Chief John Hinchcliffe.
The car was full of water and the exhaust was cold when rescue crews arrived, he said.
The accident probably happened several hours earlier, he said.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Collision Investigation Unit is trying to determine what caused the grey Honda Civic to flip over and leave the road, spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
A dive team was called in to make sure no one else had been thrown from the car into the water, she said.
The Snohomish County medical examiner is expected to conduct an autopsy.
