GLACIER — The Washington state Transportation Department says crews have reopened the Mount Baker Highway, closed since Tuesday by heavy snow and 175 trees that fell across the roadway.
The highway reopened at 4 p.m. Friday.
The road has been hit by more than six feet of snow since Dec. 14. The department said the heavy snow and strong winds snapped off tree trunks and branches and sometimes uprooted trees completely.
The Transportation Department said anyone driving to the Mount Baker ski area Saturday should carry chains.
