GRANITE FALLS — Mountain Loop Highway is open for the season.
It closed in December for the winter months. Both lanes are now clear between Granite Falls and Darrington. It opened Friday.
Crews have re-graded parts of the 14-mile gravel stretch to fill potholes, said Matt Phelps, a spokesman for Snohomish County public works.
The drive opened two weeks earlier than expected because of nice weather. Saturday is expected to bring temperatures in the mid-80s to much of Snohomish County.
There’s no snow on the highway, but many trails are still covered. Be aware of conditions.
Call the local U.S. Forest Service ranger station, or check online through the Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest or the Washington Trails Association. View road closures in the area at the Snohomish County website.
