MOXEE — The owners of a landmark restaurant near Moxee wonder why none of the firefighters who were eating hamburgers at the Silver Dollar Cafe on Friday told them it was at risk.
The restaurant burned Friday evening in the wildfire that covered about 40,000 acres of grass and brush.
A spokesman for fire managers, Dale Warriner, told The Yakima Herald-Republic the restaurant was in a “no man’s land” not covered by any fire district.
A nearby mobile home where the owners, Rick and Martha Lounsbury of Terrace Heights, often spent the night also was destroyed.
Martha Lounsbury says she could see smoke from the wildfire but didn’t feel threatened when she was serving about a dozen firefighters.
