EVERETT — Mukilteo police found a dead body near Olympic View Middle School on Thursday morning.

Around 7 a.m., police responded to multiple reports of an individual with possible injuries at the 7300 block of 48th Avenue West. Officers located the subject after arriving on the scene. The body was transported to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, where the cause and manner of death will be determined.

The incident occurred off of school property but on a trail that leads to the school’s football field, Mukilteo police spokesperson Nathan Fabia said.

Police closed off the area Thursday morning as detectives investigated. The area is now open and there is no threat to the public, Fabia said. Support 7 and various counselors were on scene.

The subject was not a middle-school-aged person, Mukilteo School District spokesperson Diane Bradford wrote in a message to district families Thursday afternoon.

“Counselors from Olympic View have been working with students who may have been impacted by this incident,” Bradford said in the message. “Our hearts go out to the victim and their loved ones.”

Police are unable to release additional details due to the sensitivity of the incident, Fabia said.
