No more warnings; Seattle school zone speeders to get fines

SEATTLE — Seattle police say there will be no more warnings to slow down in school zones. As of Monday, speeding drivers caught on camera or by a police patrol in six new Seattle school zones will get a $234 ticket.

KOMO-TV reported the new traffic cameras are at Northgate Elementary, Montlake Elementary, Gatzert Elementary, Mercer Middle School, Arbor Heights Elementary and Rainier View Elementary.

Cameras have been up at other schools for a while, but now there are 28 cameras around 14 Seattle schools.

Some 30,000 drivers were ticketed after being caught going faster than 20 mph by the older cameras during the previous school year.

The Seattle Department of Transportation says collisions have decreased about 64 percent in the areas where the cameras are working.
