SEATTLE — The blaze burning in the Olympic National Forest is now at 100 acres and expected to grow under Sunday’s warm and dry conditions.
U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Donna Nemeth said windy conditions will likely help the fire grow. She says a dramatic smoke plume is likely to rise again.
Nemeth says officials have ordered six additional crews and two helicopters to help the current crew battling the blaze.
She says officials suspect the fire was human caused, but haven’t pinpointed the exact origin.
The fire is located near the Duckabush hiking trial, which has been closed as a precaution.
Nemeth adds that the fire was reported on Thursday and is burning dead brush. About 20 people were working on suppressing it.
On Saturday, the smoke was visible from as far away as Seattle.
