Donate: Blood supplies critical

Bloodworks Northwest’s blood supplies are at critical levels as local banks are tapped to help combat the Zika virus outbreak. Particularly needed are O-negative and A-negative.

Unaffected regions have been sending blood supplies to areas impacted by the virus. Local donations already were lower than normal.

Donations can be made at donation centers in Everett (2703 Oakes Ave.) and Lynnwood (19723 Highway 99, Suite F). Or join a blood drive. Several local blood drives are planned in the coming days around Snohomish County, including Edmonds, Everett, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Marysville, Mukilteo and Stanwood.

Apply: Leadership camp for teens

Applications are now being accepted for the 2016 session of Evergreen Boys State and Evergreen Girls State. These are national programs of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary to promote hands-on learning of the U.S. democratic form of government.

Students ending their junior year of high school in 2016 are eligible to attend the week-long simulations (June 19-25 in Stanwood for boys, and June 12-18 in Ellensburg for girls) after being selected — and funded — by local American Legion and Auxiliary Posts.
