Edmonds: Book fair planned by city

A book fair to benefit charitable organizations is being planned by the city of Edmonds.

The book fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the Brackett Room on the third floor of City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N.

The fair is expected to include CDs, a variety of gift items and books.

Lynnwood: City building official dies

The city of Lynnwood plans to honor late building official Ken Korshaven, who died Saturday at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center in Kirkland after a short illness.

A memorial service for Korshaven is planned from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Trident Union Building at Edmonds Community College, 20200 68th Ave. W.

Korshaven spent more than 15 years working for the city, including seven years as the building official. He led the permits and inspection division of the Lynnwood Community Development Department. He supervised a major remodel of Alderwood mall and the redevelopment of Edmonds Community College.

“Ken was a big guy who made a big impact on those he worked with,” Lynnwood fire marshal LeRoy McNulty said. “He will be greatly missed.”

Tom Leidholdt of the permits and inspections division has been appointed as the interim building official.

Mill Creek: Church plans snow day

Play in fresh, mountain snow in Mill Creek this weekend at an event being planned for Gold Creek Community Church.

The annual snow day event is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church, 4326 148th St. SE.

The event features sledding, games, crafts, caroling and more. Anyone is welcome to attend.

Enough snow to fill 10 trailers is being trucked down to the church from Snoqualmie Pass. Church members plan to unload the snow from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. today.

Mountlake Terrace: Talk world events

Discuss local, national and global news at an event planned for the Mountlake Terrace Library.

The event, World News and Views, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Dec. 19 at the library, 23300 58th Ave. W.

People are encouraged to bring news articles or to come with discussion topics in mind.

Monroe: Garden club has party

The Monroe Garden Club is set to have its yearend party at a meeting at noon on Monday at the Laurelwood Events Center, 123 Blakely St.

The party includes a potluck and $10 garden gift exchange. New members are welcome.

The garden club holds a meeting monthly, featuring garden experts who share tips.
