EVERETT – Firefighters at the Paine Field Fire Department are moving into a portable trailer after finding mold on the walls and ceiling of their living quarters.
Samples of the mold are being tested to determine whether it is toxic, deputy airport director Bill Dolan said.
The mold was found nearly two weeks ago while the fire station was being remodeled. Firefighters are moving their living quarters and workstations into a trailer set up nearby. The trailer has almost the same amount of floor space as the room in the fire station, Dolan said.
Firefighters will share a kitchen with Paine Field maintenance crews. They will continue using their engine bays. Firefighters could be displaced for more than six months if the mold proves toxic, Dolan said. The fire station is 50 or more years old, he added.
