EVERETT — Repaving work along Broadway in north Everett will force nighttime closures along a mile-long stretch of the busy road, the city public works department announced Thursday.
Expected to start Aug. 18, contractors will close the road between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Monday through Friday until the work is complete. Broadway will close from California Street to 18th Street in phases.
The first phase will close Broadway between California Street and 23rd Street. A second phase will close Broadway between 23rd Street and 18th Street. A third phase will close the intersection of Broadway and 23rd Street.
The city’s contract with construction crews allows for 35 working days, which don’t include holidays or inclement weather, public works spokesperson Kathleen Baxter wrote in an email. The road will remain open when rain halts work.
All three phases of the paving project are expected to be complete by the fall, she said.
Construction is expected to be loud and disruptive, the public works department wrote. Bus stops along the closed stretch of Broadway will be temporarily relocated.

Clarifications: A previous version of this article did not include the three phases of the project. It also did not clarify that bus stops would be relocated.
