MOUNT VERNON — An Everett man died Tuesday night after being struck by a car in Skagit County.
Around 8:05 p.m., a driver was traveling on Highway 9 near Cooma Place in the Big Lake Area. The driver’s vehicle hit a pedestrian, who was identified by the Washington State Patrol as Melvyen Loehr, 53.
Witnesses told investigators that a pedestrian was running on and off the road about 45 minutes before the crash.
The driver didn’t stop and hadn’t been found Wednesday morning, according to State Patrol. The vehicle is believed to have significant damage to its front end. Witnesses described it as “neutral colored.”

“Your assistance is greatly appreciated in our efforts to bring closure to the family and those directly affected by this tragic incident,” trooper Jacob Kennett wrote in a news release.
