EVERETT — A man in his 30s died Sunday after a car hit him on Highway 99 in south Everett.
Just after 11 p.m., the man was crossing west to east on the thoroughfare when a vehicle struck him at the intersection of Airport Road, Everett police officer Kerby Duncan said.
The pedestrian died immediately. Police believe the man was crossing without a green light, while the driver had the right-of-way.
The driver was cooperative with police and showed no signs of impairment, Duncan said. No arrests were made and none were expected.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the victim.
With its many lanes of traffic and high speeds, Evergreen Way can be treacherous for pedestrians. Between 2012 and 2021, over a dozen pedestrians in Snohomish County were killed on Evergreen Way and Highway 99, the name the road is known by in Edmonds and Lynnwood, state data show. Dozens more were seriously hurt.
This is the third pedestrian to die on Evergreen Way or Highway 99 in the past five weeks.
Around 6:10 a.m. March 7, Richard Nelson was crossing near 100th Street SW when a car hit him. He was 88.
Three days later, around 5 a.m., a driver struck Sean Stratton as he crossed between Center Road and 112th Street SW. He was 40.
Police determined the drivers were not at fault in all three cases, Duncan said.
