The proposed condominium development at Point Wells in southwest Snohomish County may need a road through the town of Woodway if it is to go forward.
That’s because a recently discovered provision of the county planning code requires at least two routes into and out of any development that would produce 250 average daily automobile trips or more.
The proposal calls for about 3,100 units. Currently, the only access to the site is by a two-lane road through the Richmond Beach area of Shoreline.
The county’s project manager for the proposal, David Killingstad, said Wednesday that he didn’t know why the requirement hadn’t come to light earlier.
The proposed development is on the site of a former oil-shipping terminal at Point Wells in unincorporated southwest Snohomish County.
The most frequently mentioned alternative access route to the site is over a muddy hillside into Woodway.
